Hi,
Dr. Baker II, who is partially affiliated with West Penn Hospital,
seems pretty good. His father, Dr. Baker, is also a neurologist, but is an
asshole.

I have a good friend who I believe is a competent neurologist. His
name is Gordon Banks, and he's on staff over at Pitt. Bruce Horn has
dealt with him professionally -- you might want to ask him for more
information.

Timothy,

I would recommend Dr. Gordon Banks. I have known Gordon for about 8 years.
He's a great guy, a hell of a neurologist, and a hacker too! Seriously, I've
worked with Gordon on neurological diagnosis in medical AI. He's an expert
and very easy to talk to. You can probably get in touch with him by paging
him at Presbyterian, or try calling him in his office at the Decision
Systems Lab in the Medical School. He might even have a plan file.

I can recommend Gerald Durkin at Urgi-Care in Penn Hills. He is both a
practicing emergency physician and a neurologist.

i recommend dr. oscar "mac" reinmuth, at presby. he is head of neurology
there. he is a fantastic doctor and a wonderful man. i have been under his
care for the past year; other members of my family have known his for longer
periods of time. we are all very happy with his care. he often has a full
schedule, so sometimes it's hard to get an appointment, but don't let that
deter you. the woman who makes his appointments is fran brandt. i would
tell fran that "one of the swedlows" recommended mac- that *might* help.

if you don't want to go to presby, try dr. joe maroon at west penn (i
believe it's west penn; you can look him up). i believe he is head of
neurology there. he used to work at presby and while there, cared for me
and some other people in my family. he is also a wonderful doctor, as well
as a wonderful human being.

as far as neurosurgeons go, i recommend dr. dade lunsford, at presby. he is
a bit of a dud, personality-wise, but a very skilled surgeon. again, dade
is a family doctor of sorts. my mother works with him, and feels that he is
the best doctor on the neuro team.

whatever you do, don't see dr. henry higman (also at presby). sometime last
year, i was in the hospital and mac was out of town, so higman took over my
care. he diagnosed a psychiatric evaluation for a neurological condition.
in 1975, he recommended the same sort of evaluation for someone i know; the
man had a brain tumor, and wasn't the least bit crazy.

		good luck.

Dr. Gerry Durkan is superb. The best way to reach him is through Urgi-Care
in Penn Hills. I know Gerry both professionally and personally and
recomment him highly.

My wife used to be the head nurse on a neuro floor. Her response is that it
depends on exactly what you want to see one for. For general neurology she
suggested Dr Weissman, Dr Dashieff, or Dr Banks. Dr Weissman has his own
office, you should be able to find it in the yellow pages. Dr's Dashieff and
Banks probably both probably work at Falk Clinic. She also said that if
it has anything to do with seizures, Dr Dashieff may be the best in the city.
