From: Mike.Carey at CMU-10A (X335MC61)

There's an excellent dentist who has an office in Squirrel Hill.
His name is Donald L. Lewis, DMD. His office phone number is
521-0965. He has his office at 5873 Forbes Avenue.

He's not the world's least expensive dentist (if you want cheap
try the Pitt Dental school clinic)....I would have to say that
he's the best dentist I've had to date, though. Very thorough,
and the closest thing to painless dentistry I've encountered.
(A disclaimer: While I recommend him highly, I take no
responsibility if others don't agree! I can tell you that one of
my roommates also likes his work, though.)

My wife and I go to Dr. D. L. Lewis (521-0965) on Forbes. He sent
me to Joseph Andrews of Pierce and Andrews (687-5589) who
extracted my wisdom teeth in Shadyside Hospital. I recommend the
lot of them.

>>> Martin Green

From: Charles.Leiserson at CMU-10A (C410CL30)

I can recommend Dr. Martin Green whose office is on Negley. He
is very gentle, and many in the department use him.

Martin Green on N. Negley is good, cheap, and friendly, and used by
a number of people in the department.

>>> Harold Davis
Date:    22 Jan 1980 1118-EST
From:    JOHN.OUSTERHOUT at CMU-10A

I have been seeing Harold Davis (his office is on Fifth Avenue
across from one of the last hospitals towards the other side of
Oakland). Although I haven't had any real work for him to do he
has always seemed EXTREMELY competent, honest, and open. Don and
Sheryl Scelza both saw him when they were in Pittsburgh, both had
moderate amounts of real work done by him (cavity-filling, etc.)
and both were also quite impressed. His rates aren't cheap (about
$40 for the first appointment, which includes a full set of
X-rays, and about $25-30 for checkups after that) but I don't
think anybody else's will be too much better.

I have had very good experiences with Dr. Harold(?) Davis on Fifth
Ave.. I had a lot of work done and was very satisfied with price
and treatment.

>>> Pitt Dental School

From:    DAVID.SMITH at CMU-10A

Have you looked at the Pitt dental school? It's cheaper
(especially if you qualify for half-price service). It also takes
longer, since they insist on taking you through how to brush your
teeth, etc. I had my teeth worked over by Kris Funk, a 3rd year
student who was already a friend. He did a good job.

>>> Pitt Dental School

From: Gregory.Lloyd at CMU-10A

I had a lot of gold work done many years ago at the Pitt dental
school. It takes a lot of time, but the cost was right. I got into
it with emergency surgery on a collapsed wisdom tooth.

>>> Morton Seltman

From: Eve.Cohen at CMU-10A (A345EC01)

Try Morton Seltman, offices in the Park Building downtown.
Painless Mort, we used to call him.

>>> Conrad Nagel
Date: 30 September 1981 1546-EDT (Wednesday)
From: Dan Hoey at CMU-10A

Conrad F. Nagel, III came recommended by the Guide to Living in
Pittsburgh when I got here, and I have had good work done by him.
But this year, when I needed an extraction and bridge, he quoted
$1200. Part of this was probably that he refers his extractions
to a clinic. Anyway, my family's dentist in Washington, D. C.
claims this would come to $800 tops with him, so I commute for it.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Nagel; it might have
paid off in mental anguish alone to have the extraction done under
general anesthesia, as his clinic would have done. But if you're
tight on bucks, it can pay to shop around for the big ones.

From: Jim Quinlan <quinlan@cmu-ee-faraday.arpa>

C-MU's health service has a list of recommended dentists & oral
surgeons for the asking. If you remind me in about 2 months I'll
tell you how good (or bad) one of them pulled out 4 of my wisdom
teeth, provided that I come out alive.

>>> Stephen Miller
Date: Monday, 2 July 1984 20:23:40 EDT
From: Mark.Stehlik@cmu-cs-g.arpa

I've used Dr. Stephen Miller on Fifth Ave. (681-7171) with good
results. He's a real nice guy, with a weird sense of humor, but
he's quite competent and can do oral surgery.

>>> Henry Nagy
Date: Monday, 2 July 1984 21:27:04 EDT
From: Robert.White@cmu-cs-gandalf.arpa

Dr. Nagy at West Penn Hosp is the best oral surgeon around. But
he is not the cheapest. He removed my wisdom teeth as a favor to
my grandfather (who was the best proctologist around). I was
eating (ever so gingerly) solid food within 24 hours.

>>> Margaret Horning
Date: 2 Jul 1984 21:56-EST
From: Mark.Turner@CMU-RI-ISL1.ARPA

Dr. Margaret Horning, who practices on South Craig, seems good.
She's on the faculty at U. Pitt. dental school, and is very in
touch with the technology -- she did tests on me that I had never
heard of before.

>>> Robert Schoewe
Date: 2 Jul 1984 22:14-EST
From: Doug.Jensen@CMU-CS-G.ARPA

I believe that the finest dentist in the major metropolitan area
is Robert Schoewe, 487-6910, 4290 Rt 8. He is a true lunatic
fringe perfectionist. He is also extremely expensive.
