We used Dr. Wolfson (of Bass, Wolfson & Brecht). He is extremely good, and their practice is possibly the best in Pittsburgh. They literally wrote the book on how to practice pediatrics. (We moved to the North Hills, so we have a local pediatrician now). Of course, you should know that the personal chemistry between you and your pediatrician is almost as important as his/her skill at diagnosis. Wolfson had a free interview to ask him hard questions while my wife is pregnant -- you should take advantage of similar opportunities. -- Phil Date: Fri, 6 Jul 1990 09:51-EDT From: Mark.Stehlik@G.GP.CS.CMU.EDU Subject: Re: Pediatricians? I have used Drs. Bass, Wolfson and Breck for the past 6 years. They have cared for both my 6 year old son and 2 year old daughter and I have been very satisfied. They have a lot of patients but still manage to give some personal touches (although during cold season, it looks like an assembly line sometimes). Since there are three of them, you're bound to find one with a bedside manner that appeals to you, as their personalities are quite different. Mark Subject: recommendation - pediatrician Date: Fri, 06 Jul 90 10:29:48 EDT From: Carol Biesecker Dr. Lee W. Bass was my daughter's pediatrician for 21 years. Last year she decided she wanted to go to an internist, and, reluctantly, left Dr. Bass's care. Dr. Bass has a "call hour" every morning. You may telephone and ask _any_ question, silly or not, during that time. This is a godsend, particularly during infancy. He is affiliated with both Magee Women's and Children's Hospital. If he goes on vacation, one of his associates covers his service. If he must refer to a specialist, he oversees the medical care given. As a single parent, I found Dr. Bass's encouragement and support invaluable. And his continuing, genuine interest in my daughter's well-being, his influence as a positive role model in her life had an immeasurable and unbelievably positive effect. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Bass and his associates. cb Date: Fri, 6 Jul 1990 11:55-EDT From: Margaret.Reid-Miller@GS11.SP.CS.CMU.EDU Subject: Re: Pediatricians? My two year old daughter goes to Dr Michaels, who share a practice with Dr. Mermelstein. She has also seen Dr. Mermelstein. He is an older, very experience doctor who is very good with children. I recommend him (or Dr. Michaels) highly. --Margaret Date: Fri, 6 Jul 90 09:30:58 EDT From: Manuela.Veloso@ML.RI.CMU.EDU Subject: Re: Pediatricians? Dr. Lee Bass has been the pediatrician of our two sons for almost 3 years. We like him VERY much. Dr. Jane Breck and Dr. Wolfson are also very good. When we arrived to Pittsburgh we chose another pediatricians' office that I did not like that much. We are very happy that we changed to Dr. Bass' office. Andre' and Pedro, our children, also love him! Good luck, Manuela. P.S. I don't know the other doctors you listed.
