Subject: optometrist and optician recommendation

I broke my 8-year old pair of glasses recently and needed a new pair.
I had also been reading about vision therapy using exercises rather
than corrective lenses. I got a referral from the Optometric
Extension Foundation which trains optometrists in these techniques:
and the nearest doctor was Z.S. Rudavsky on Murray Ave. in Greenfield
(across from the Giant Eagle). I'm very happy with Dr. Rudavsky: he
is friendly and happy to discuss the tests he is performing. He said
that after 15 years of wearing glasses constantly the visual exercises
probably wouldn't do much good but loaned me an IBM PC program to try
if I wanted to explore further.

If your vision is deteriorating or you have children about to get
fitted for glasses you might want to somebody about correcting eye
usage habits rather than just putting your eyes on crutches. You can
get a referral from:
Optometric Extension Program | Dr. Robert A. Williams
    | 2912 S. Daimler St. Santa Ana CA 92705 | 714-250-8070

The exam cost $45. I got the prescription made at the 20/20 opticians
in the same building - they were friendly and I got lenses and frames
for $132 (including a 20% first time discount). They also did a
fairly tricky repair on my old frames for free.
