I have tried several podiatrists in the area and by far the best is
Dr. Vilsack located in the Shadyside Professional Building. Vilsack,
besides being a super nice guy, seems to really care about his patients
and he knows what he is doing. I went to him for orthotics and he had
a pair made that fit perfectly. I would highly recommend this guy.

On the other hand, don't go see Barry Kaplan (actually he is an
orthopedist) at any cost. This guy besides being a right-wing conservative,
is a total jerk. It's not that he doesn't know what he is doing, he is
just totally unprofessional. He loves to tell you how much every little
piece of equipment costs ("Would you believe that chair your sitting in
costs $27,000!? Don't worry, I'll only charge you 30 bucks for sitting
it.") The first time I went to see this guy he rambled on about the
bleeding heart liberals in New York for 20 minutes. I was afraid to tell
the guy that I am one. I also got a pair of orthotics from this guy.
He told me if I had any problem to just bring them back. Well, I did haver
a problem and I brought them back and he moaned and groaned about it. He
also made it clear that he didn't want to hear any more complaints about
those orthotics. He won't.

It is interesting to note that I bought a pair of orthotics from both
guys and they charged exactly the same price (down to the penny) including
several office visit and x-rays. Actually, Kaplan never took x-rays which
makes me think he wasn't as thorough as he should have been.
