Hi Harry!

I recently queried about allergists on the general bboard. Thought you
might be interested in the answers.

Original post:

About a year ago, I was diagnosed with a wide variety of allergies and put
on 5 or 6 medications. For various reasons I have now decided that my
diagnosis was probably incorrect. I'd like to consult with a reputable
allergist who can tell me if I really have allergies.

However, as we all know, if you have a hammer everything looks like a nail.
So I'd like to find someone who not only KNOWS about allergies but also has
a dose of healthy scepticism about them (my old allergist is definitely not
in this category). If you know anyone who might fit the bill please let me
know.

Bovik is about 10 years out of date. Responses will be forwarded to him.

Thanks!

Dr. Irwin A. Solow, who has office in the Medical Arts Building on
Fifth Avenue in Oakland, is a highly recommended allergist. I was
almost going to go to him. But the allergist my doctor refered to
me seems to be capable enough for my case, so I did not go. It seems
to me that the trick of my allergist is to prescribe the newest
and/or most expensive medicine for me, but I might be wrong. In any
case, as my allergy symptom is well under controled, so I did not bother
to search a better allergist.

I've been happy with the Pgh Skin and Cancer Clinic, downtown [despite
the distressing name]. My current doctor there is Dr. McBride. I'm
not sure if they count as allergists, but since they treat those and
other things, they might be open-minded.
