Dr. Fred Smith, in Squirrel Hill, was recommended to me when I moved here a
couple of years ago (I had a REALLY GOOD eye doctor in Charlottesville and
was afraid I 'd get a clunker!)  I ended up going to him and have been very
happy with the level of care--he's very conscientious.  However, my eyes have
improved so much on their own (20/120 -> 20/40!) that I quit wearing contacts
last year, and never actually bought a pair from him.  I know two people who
did, and they are both happy with it.  His prices won't break you, but they
are not discount-level.  He specializes in contact lenses.  His office is
across Murray from the post office in Squirrel Hill.
