They are cheap when compared with optometrists in private practice ($85 for lenses + $25 for eye exam + $12 for initial fitting, as of last year) and they are reliable and good, but they are slow. It may take weeks to get an appointment. If you check the Guide to Pittsburgh you will find another recommendation. I have a friend who just got lenses from one of the super cheap places downtown (Professional Contact Lenses, I think) with the obnoxious eyeglass ads which play on people's vanity. Prices are in the $20+$30 range, plus eye exam ($15), and they are semi-reasonable. They optometrist actually looks at your eyes in all of the right ways, but they don't schedule a follow up appointment after giving you the lenses (although you can get one, included in the price, if you ask). The decision is yours. Gary
