I received so many thoughtful replies that I thought I would share them
with you.

I've heard good things about Krupp and Morton. However, they are not
exactly accessible or responsive from my experience. Twice I have had
a minor emergency and they have not been willing to handle my problem.
They weren't taking new patients, I was told, and they wouldn't take a
non-patient no matter what the problem was. I called them because they
are 2 blocks away and much more convenient than waiting 3 hours at an
emergency room 3 miles away. Considering how easy the problems would
have been to fix, I wasn't exactly impressed with their flexibility or
caring.

I personally would find another doctor. They obviously have more than
enough business as it is, whether they are good doctors or not.

Good luck!

I went to her once for something trivial, and I liked her. She thinks
about bodies the way hackers think about computers, so I was able to
understand her well. Many other doctors I've been to have completely
opaque thought processes (at least as far as I can tell).

Also, Knupp answered my questionnaire right. Do a wais search for a
message from me in the bovik database for the text of the
questionnaire and her response.

Eric,

I have gone to Dr. Knupp for a few years now. I
have not had any serious medical problems, but
the problems I have had were resolved in one visit
to her. She seems competent to me and struck me
as someone down to earth that you could discuss
things with.

Good luck

I just saw Morton the other day for the first time. (My ear
was bothering me). She seemed very nice, and competent -- though
my case was a hardly a difficult one. She got some good reviews
in the Bovik DB which was where I picked her out of (actually,
Knupp had the good reviews), but Morton was who I saw, and that
was fine. I think as a regular GP she should be fine...I'll go
back there for a full physical in 6 months.

Eric,

We've been using their practice for over four years. Seem very
competent and thorough, although I can think of one mistake they've
made (gave our infant the wrong vaccine). On the plus side, we would
never have known except they told us as soon as they discovered the
mistake, even though the vaccine was only a month or two out of
sequence and was unlikely to cause any problems. They even comp'd
that visit, which was about $100. Come to think of it, they also
made another mistake regarding insurance, which they caught and
corrected themselves without my needing to haggle with them as we
had to when a different physician made a similar mistake a few
years back.

As for availability, I've called their office on a Saturday and been
call-forwarded to Dr. Knupp at home. Whenever we've had a question
during office hours they've been very good about taking our number and
having the doctor call back fairly promptly with an answer. They seem
to be good about not recommending an office visit unless it's
warranted. In fact, it's not uncommon for us to have one of the
children in for something and ask Dr. Morton to take a look at
something with one of the others, which she has done without
charge (unlike some pediatricians we've known).

All in all, we like them very much!

Jeff

We use Dr. Knupp and Dr. Morton for our entire family (me, my wife, and
two young children -- 7 and 4). We are very happy with their skills and
their ability to communicate with us. If you have any other questions,
please ask.

Eric,
I go to her when I get the flu and for bi-annual physicals. I
can recommend her for general stuff, and she is very patient and will call
you right back if you have questions. I believe the same is true for
Dr. Knupp. They seem keep quite busy in terms of the number of patients.
However, I am not sure if I would recommend them for anything more serious
than what I've described above.

My wife and I have been going to Morton sicne we returned to the US.
She's great. Yes to all the things you mention, plus a sympathetic
attitude, and a willingness to explain what's going on, which I always
find important (i.e., not just what I should do, but why).

I don't personally use them, but a good friend uses Donna Knupp and
finds her to be very competent, accessible, and responsive. From what
my friend has told me, Dr. Knupp doesn't just diagnose and treat a
particular instance, she gets a broad view and looks at the whole person
and situation.

As a sidelight, Donna and I used to be neighbors and she is a very warm,
caring, intelligent person. (I don't use her as my own doctor because
she was my neighbor when we first moved here and I was selecting
doctors, and I don't like having a doctor who is also a friend, or even
a close acquaintance.)

Don't have any info on Morton.

I use Dr. Morton as my physician. She seems to be quite responsive,
so that part is easy to answer. Regarding accessibility: They do not
seem to overbook, so as long as you can get there during normal
business hours, you should be ok. They are not open on the weekend or
in the evenings. However, there does always seem to be someone
covering, although you might have to leave a message and wait for a
return call. I've done that twice, and been called back fairly
quickly both times. But unless it's a real emergency, you'll have to
wait until they're open to see someone (after all, it's a small
practice). They have slight restrictions for some visits, e.g. no
allergy shots on Monday, since that's a busy day, as well as Thursday,
since they're usually shorthanded then. But they're quite flexible -
if I'm in for another reason on one of those days, and they're not too
busy, they will give me the shot anyway.

Regarding competence, I have no complaints, which is pretty unusual
for me (I'm very picky). On the other hand, I haven't had any serious
problems on which I can base an evaluation. I was impressed, however,
in Dr. Morton's willingness and ability to let me know how she made
her diagnoses and planned treatment for the things I have come in
with. This is certainly important in my _perception_ of her
competence (at least I know she's not overlooking things I'm concerned
about).

Dr. Knupp seems to be the senior partner, so I would guess she's at
least as good as Dr. Morton (but I don't actually know that).

My only gripe about the practice is that it's not as convenient
as an HMO, which is what I'm used to. But I think that's
inherent in its being a small private practice.

Eric, I'm not sure if this is what you want but ...

My wife, Linda, uses Dr. Knupp. She has told me that Dr. Knupp is very
personable, gently, open for questions, and thorough. Linda has been very
happy with her, though I should note that she hasn't had any serious
illnesses or major medical procedures.

I hope this helps. -Wilson
