Subject: Good opthamologist

A good opthamologist, William J. McVay, is conveniently
located at the corner of 5th and Neville. I went to him
after dealing with CMU health services about some redness
and irritation in my eye. CMU health services (Dr. Gonzales)
had prescribed Neosporin to deal with what he diagnosed
correctly as conjunctivitis. This cleared up the problem
temporarily, but a few days after he declared I was cured
the symptoms returned.

Tired of screwing around, I went to Dr. McVay. He made
an appointment with me for the day I called him, as opposed
to the weeks or months other opthamologists I had called wanted
me to wait, as they were all on summer vacation. Dr. McVay
is friendly and personable. More importantly, he took a very
careful history, and explained to me exactly what was happenning
in my eye(s). I did have conjuctivitis, but it was cause by
blepharitis, which in turn was caused by dirt, dust, and crust
on my eyelashes. Treating the conjunctivitis, he said, was
secondary to treating the blepharitis. He also said he would
never prescibe Neosporin, because one-third of the people who
use it develop an allergy to the its main antibiotic ingredient,
neomycin.

Anyway, the treatment he gave me made sense, and seems to be
effective. He charged $25 for the office visit.
