We selected 20/20 over in Greenfield. We were very pleased with
their service. Other recomendations received are listed below.

I don't have a difficult prescription, but the place I go to resounds of
"good work" in every aspect I've encountered. As an example, they make
you take a class in contact lenses before you go home with your first
pair (includes putting them in, taking them out, and dicussing use and
care). They also make OSHA approved safety eyewear in prescription form
for those who need them for work and explained to me the difference
between "safety glass" and "OSHA approved safety glass."

Eye and Ear on Liberty Ave, downtown.

Again, I haven't had to have them grind a really strange prescription,
so this is a nominal recommendation for your purposes.

Dr. Fred Smith on Murray Avenue. I go to him. He talks a lot, but
the general opinion is that he knows what he's doing. He is also
highly recommended by Dr. Bovik.

You have hit on a subject near and dear to me -- I spent a YEAR (and 3 lousy
pairs of glasses) trying to find a decent optician in this city. I, too,
have a difficult prescription and eyes that are extremely sensitive to any
variance away from the exact lens that I am supposed to have.

About 4 years ago I discovered 20/20 Opticians on Murray Avenue in
Greenfield. Two brothers, Barry and Evan, run the place and it's GREAT.
Your wife will get personalized care, a good pair of glasses and a greeeat
price. These guys run a community-oriented business -- they take care of
their customers and aren't trying to run an assembly line like Pearle or
Lenscrafters, etc. It's a no-frills establishment - which keeps their
overhead down and therefore reduces YOUR cost as well.

They're across from the Giant Eagle near the intersection of Lilac and
Murray -- be sure to tell them you're from CMU - you'll get a 20% discount.

P.S. There is also an optometrist there - Dr. Rudovsky - who I switched to
also. Also a really decent person and a very good optometrist.

M&D Optical, out on Saltsburg Road in Penn Hills (about 8 miles away from
the East End) does excellent work. I recommend them highly. They're in the
yellow pages.

I recomend "O' Hanlon" opticians. They are downtown in a building on
Smithfield St. They have a good lab service, a good selection of frames
and sales/service from the 'old-school'. They have Sat morning hours.
