Barbara,
This guy is _so_ good.
He's treated me (back & knee),
Gretchen (leg),
Phyllis (knee) very recently,
Kevin Deasy (runner - legs, shins),
and lots of other people I know.

Originally was at Childrens',
then Oakland Orthopedics,
now at present location.
Still treats a lot of children,
but many athletes and dancers as well.

Oh, and he's very nice and realizes
active people need to be active.
Has a big rep.

Try Dr. Freddie Fu and his other associates at the University sports center
on N. Craig (near Center I think) These guys have the best set up for
physical therapy and I had my knee operated by Dr. Fu.

Barbara,

I don't think that he specializes in the lower leg, but the doctor that
I'm currently seeing for my broken ankle is Dr. Miller at Oakland
Orthopedic Associates. He was recommended to me by a cardiolgist friend
who has been to him for running injuries (he's also sent several other
friends to him for running related problems). He's young enough and
active enough to understand the perspective of sports-minded patients,
and thus far I've been quite happy with him.

Hope this helps,

    Blake.

How about the Center for Sports Mediicne and Rehabilitation ?

I'm currently going there for some physical therapy for injuries incurred
when I was hit by a car.

They are associated with U.Pitt. My GP at Falk Clinic prescribed me there,
but you can call 578-3300. It's at Baum & Craig; it's a pretty big place,
new, and well-equipped. I think the (in)famous Dr. Fu (sp?) (a knee man)
spends some time there also.

I go to the Pittsburgh Sports Medicine Clinic on the corner of Craig and
Baum (convenient to SEI) for my plantar fasciitis. I'm sure there is
someone there who could deal with shin stuff. They also have PTs there
and facilities for getting PT sessions. My doctor is David Stone, but his
specialty is supposed to be foot/ankle injuries.

I don't know know which insurance you have, but I have UHN which has some
restrictions on where I can go for service (and get reimbursed). I called
them to find out which of their listed specialists (orthopedists)
specialized in foot injuries/problems. They can do the same for shin/lower
leg, etc..

You can also try other clinics, like the St. Margaret's Sports Medicine
Clinic/Center. They also have a physician referral and can tell you if
particular phyicians on theor staff can deal with a pqrticular problem.
Generally, you'd want to arrange to see that doctor first, as if you go to
the clinic you'll get whoever is on duty.
