Bovik, I didn't use any of these doctors, but I still think the
info people gave me are worthwhile to pass on. As for my
case, I didn't go for any surgery after the initial treatment.
I simply bore with the inconvenience of always having to keep
one leg up for almost three months and let it grow back by
itself. Dr. Peter Johnson from UPMC had been keeping an eye on
it, and that's all the medical treatment I got during that time.

Thanks to all the people who were concerned,

Mei

I'm not sure whether he can help you directly, but if not I would trust
our orthopaedic surgeon, Graham Johnstone MD, to give you an excellent
recommendation. He has offices in Shadyside (on Centre Avenue) and in
Fox Chapel. He is a surgeon who likes to find alternatives to surgery,
which is a trait we like!

Another possibility is to talk to Tony Digioia MD, who is an orthopaedic
surgeon working with Takeo on medical robotics.

I had part of my earlobe excised at the Falk Clinic. My surgeon was unsure
about how to make the excision look good and called in Dr. Bridenstine for
a consultation. Bridenstine drew the outline of the excision and my doctor
did the actual surgery. The result is excellent - the remaining tissue is
shaped like the other ear lobe (only smaller) and the scar is difficult to
see (the surgery was less than a year ago).

Bridenstine was also recommended by another doctor at Falk, but was
unavailable for surgery when I needed it. He might be a good choice for
your second opinion.

I'm not sure if he's exactly the right guy, but Dr. David Stone at
Presby Sports Medicine does a really good job on things like
tendonitis. Since they are sports medicine, I would assume they deal
with injuries. If they don't do it themselves, they'd probably make a
recomendation. Good luck!

Mei,
I recently was under the care of Oakland Orthopedics, specifically
Dr. Worrell. I highly recommend him..he has treated me and my neighbor.

I don't know the extent of your injury. If it involved tendon/muscle
or nerve damage, I would recommend an orthopedic surgeon. If it's
primarily cosmetic at this point in time, I would recommend a
plastic surgeon altho' I personally don't have experience with one
locally.

Good luck...keep in mind that your insurance coverage may have
requirements regarding second opinions.

Mei,

I hope you are feeling much better. It was a shock to hear about your accident.
Anyway, I am pretty sure that you want a Plastic/Reconstructive surgeon.
These guys specialize (in addition to nose jobs, face lifts, and tummy tucks)
in recontructing skin and underlying tissues after an accident. I don't think
they would get involved in tendons or muscles though. My wife had to have
some surgery. We asked around and got recommendations from a couple of
physicians for Marc Liang. He is on Aiken inbetween center and ellsworth.
He is on the faculty at pitt. He explained everything, did a good job on
the surgery.
