Subject: Rheumatologists

Dr. Bovik,

I asked for recommendations for rheumatologists in the area.
Included below are the responses I received.

Since 3 of the 5 recommendations were for H.M. Margolis and
Associates, I went with them. They gave me a complete battery of
tests, and I spoke briefly with Dr. Young. I then returned to discuss
the results with Dr. Cash, who was very helpful and friendly. He even
suggested ways to improve my workstation environment to alleviate my
back strain. It is their practice to have you see two different
doctors on your first two visits - a built in second opinion of sorts.
I would also recommend them highly.

Hi Ken
Try Ted Osial--he is the Symphony's tour doc and rheumatology is his
specialty. Two offices--one downtown and the other at St. Margaret's
281-1594
Ted is his nickname. His first name is actually Thaddeus.

I strongly recommend Noah Bass in Squirrel Hill. He's very thorough,
conscientious, and is an MIT physics grad.
His office is above the West Coast Video store on Murray.

St. Margaret Hospital Hospital near Aspinwall has an arthitis center
which my wife went to for arthritis testing and treatment.
My wife saw Dr. Elizabeth Young who is in the same practice (H.M. Margolis &
Associates) as Dr. Osial. She liked Dr. Young. Good luck...Stephen

Ken-

I have psoriatic arthritis and, when specialist help is needed, see Dr.
Virginia Steen, who is part of a very highly regarded rheumatology group at
the University of Pittsburgh. They get patients from all over the country
for related conditions such as scleroderma -- if you don't know what it is,
don't ask; it's awful.

Anyway, Dr. Steen is intelligent, personable, and explains her findings
and recommendations clearly. She never seems to keep you waiting inordinately
long, nor does she make you feel rushed when she sees you. My last visit, I
saw another aspect of her skill. I needed a cortisone injection in my badly
swollen thumb knuckle. The placement of the needle is critical, but she kept
pain to a minimum and delivered the injection carefully. In other words, her
hands are as skilled as her mind.

She's in the White Pages only, I believe. I recommend her very highly.

My wife has arthritis. She goes to H.M. Margolis and Associates in the
Park Bldg. Downtown and says they are well respected throughout the
nation. They are internists who specialize in theumatoid diseases.
