I asked for newer information on Painters and this is what I
received. You should also prune the OLD information you have
about painters. We called some of the old references, and they
are not painting anymore:

Charles Gabriel -- no longer his #
Mike Ainor -- now restores pipe organs
Michael Mainiero -- wrong #
Rick Asbury (Poston Paint Co) -- wrong #
Bob Simcic -- wrong #

We got a number of estimates. We tried Budget Home Improvements
who advertized on market, but they were cheap and BAD. Henry
Webber never returned my calls, despite repeated attempts.

We then used Richard Eastman, 362-1588, who did a good job, and
was much cheaper than some.

Brad,

My husband was a professional painter for 8 years, but got out of the
business for various reasons. He still does some jobs during evenings
or weekends.

Can you possibly give me an explanation of the job and when you need it
finished, along with your phone number? I can ask him if he's interested
and have him call.

You could try Dale Hummel (224 7015). He's a general contractor who
I think is starting to move particularly into painting. He's doing
some painting for me now and it looks good. In general he's very
conscientious about finishing a job once he's started, but he does
tend to underestimate how long it will take (painting may be more
predictable than the construction he's been doing for me). I
think his rates are very reasonable.

I sent out about the same query back in July.
Several people recommended Henry Webber (a.k.a Master Brush).

Beyond that I recieved two other recommendations:
(note- comments included as they were sent to me)

>Bruce Kemp
>RD 1
>Fenelton PA 16034
>445-2742
>This guy is excellent and gets booked way ahead.

>I've used Bob Kellerman (241-6777) for interior work. He is in the good
>to very good category, and reasonably priced. He is a very good
>craftsman, but not an artist, which means if you have REALLY beautiful
>interiors, you may not want him, but I have always been satisifed with
>his work. In contrast to the plumber, he is also very pleasant guy to
>deal with, and is always willing to do the little extra fix until the
>customer is really satisfied.

We got Henry Webber out and he gave us an estimate. We haven't
contacted the other guys, since we've decided to save $$ and
do a lot of the work ourselves (later).

hope this helps,

Mitzi

Brad,
I have used Ernie Tyree for some painting at my house and he did a good
job for a very reasonable amount. The only thing to watch out with
him is that he doesn't like to commit himself for howlong things
will take and when he can start. So you have to be sure to set things
up with him carefully and make sure that all the terms are settled
before you agree to give him the job. Its a little hassle but his
work was quite good and for about 1/2 of what other people had quoted.
His number is 672-1733.

Try Jack Armitage.
441-1254

He did our bathroom to fantastic results.
Very cheap, yet very thorough.

I've been familiar with his work for over 30 years.
(He's my dad!) :-)

I recommend Bob Barone (661-7021) who did some exterior painting for
us on two occasions. At 10$/hour he painted sealant on our deck and fence.
He was conscientious and courteous.
He does interior work too. I can't vouch for the quality of his interior
painting, never having hired him for that, but I would expect a good job.
