Subject: real estate agent *dis*recommendation [Phil Ritt = bad news]
Message-Id: <700786928/phoebe@GS15.SP.CS.CMU.EDU>

Harry,

I was looking through your data base on real estate agents to buy a
house, and noticed you had no information on Phil Ritt of Harris Realty.
My housemates and I looked at some rental property through him and were
astonished at how bad his level of service was. We gave him a list of
what we were looking for, and he showed us 4 or 5 apartments that
obviously did *not* qualify (to start with, they were all a mile or two
further away from school than the outside perimeter we had told him).
The property was all in pretty bad condition. He also pulled such
tricks as telling us an apartment had hardwood floors; when we showed up
it had really ratty wall-to-wall and he said, "There are hardwood floors
*under* the wall-to-wall." When we complained about the terrible
condition of the property and the distance from school, he said, "You're
students. What do you expect? In your price range [~ $750/month for a
3BR] you should be happy with anything you can find. If you find
anything you even half like, you should snap it " We agreed and
promptly snapped up a very nice apartment from another realtor...

I wouldn't rent an outhouse from this man.
