Barbara --

This is your week to hear from me! First, a disrecommendation: Avoid
People's Gas, despite any expectations of objectivity or competence.
Their serviceman, when he cleaned our furnace, mistook a shadow for a
hole, condemned the unit, then failed to make a crucial diagnostic
test, and left the cleaning unfinished. The story goes on.

Fortunately, the furnace did, too, and lasted another three years. Joe
Newcomer had similar problems, possibly with Equitable, but considering
that their complaint rate is one of the country's highest (according to
the Gazette), I'd avoid both utilities.

Pete Basile, who owns Season Air (746-1716), provided valuable guidance
during our furnace crisis. Last fall he replaced the unit and did an
outstanding job. I recommend him. Tell him I said so.
