We've had mediocre results with The Maids and Katie's Cleanups, which are companies that hire out people and charge around $9/hour of which the workers see about $5. So we decided to look for more entrepreneural individuals who had a vested interest in doing a good job for $9 per hour, at essentially the same cost to us. Anyway we ended up hiring Maria Intrieri's mom who does a wonderful job. (She's also done two loads of laundry and washed down the front porch in the summer, etc.) (I recently gave her a 10% raise.) I have recommended her to Satya and Tom Gross, both of whom still employ her as far as I know. I think also that she does Craig Everhart's house. Anyway, she has a key to my house, takes my check while I'm away, and does an excellent job. I recommend her highly. Her rates aren't the absolute cheapest, but she is very efficient, thorough and reliable. What I especially appreciate is that she figures out what needs to be done without me having to give elaborate directions, and tidies without randomizing my work piles.
