David --

Craig Church, office in one of the far southern suburbs, is an excellent
structural engineer who is also a qualified architect; he did a fine job for
us.  I have been told that Dennis Roth, in Sq Hill, is similarly qualified;
I was less happy talking to him than to Craig (which is why we hired Craig
despite the geographical impediment).

Pennsylvania regulations permit any architect to do structural engineering.
It is a very bad policy! Two such who should definately be avoided are Ray
Schindhoffer (sp?) and Tony Stillson (sp?); they are both very dangerous
people.

I don't know if you found someone yet, or not. If you did, just pass
this info on to Bovik.

John Kaspar, 361-6191 Civil Engineer (Bachelor's from M.I.T., master's
from U.Mass.) Works for the City of Pgh. Has a lot of experience
building houses (carpentry), major remodeling, etc. Very materials-conscious
and has an excellent grasp of structural issues. Can do home inspections,
etc. Doesn't have a great deal of extra time right now (summer 1994) because
he's engaged in major repairs on his very own handyman's nightmare
(like, the roof, the plumbing, the wiring, the interior walls . . .)
but has done inspections, consulting and carpentry on a free-lance
basis in the past. Probably willing to take smaller jobs even now,
certainly by end of year.
