Dear Dr. Bovik,
I was recently interviewing prospective real estate agents to list
my house on the market.
Below are some recommendations/disrecommendations.
After interviewing 5 capable agents,
I decided on listing with Hope Feldman based on recommendations
from CMU'ers and meeting her.
She seems very customer oriented.
I'll report back when the house is sold though.
cheers,
Mark Wheeler

Hi, Mark,

if you may consider other agents, besides named four,
can I also suggest you talk to Tanya Faubion-Domashnev
from Metro at Shadyside? Tanya worked at real estate
for several years, so she's quite experienced; on the
other hands, she have recieved her own License only
few months ago and, therefore she is a/ very active;
b/ not very expensive.

Since I am a husband of Tanya and cannot really give any
recomendations, I may refer you to Kent James, who dealt
with Tanya (kj23@andrew; 229-1538)

We used Melada when buying (but not as a buyers agent). A number
of other people at Transarc did also. She knew the East End very well
and worked very hard to find us a house we liked. Then when the deal
was within reach, she put on the screws to get us to sign (but that's
her job).

Friends listed their house with her in 1994. It wasn't successful -
they felt that she told them to price the house too high. Other
agents they saw at the time advised them to price the house for less,
but they believed linda's sales job (but they may have *wanted* to
believe it; they'd only owned the house for a couple of years and they
had paid a high price, I think). I actually don't know how this
turned out, because they left town with the house unsold (after a year
or so, and a couple of price drops) and we have lost touch with them.

I wouldn't read a lot into this one incident, but if you get other
similar reports about her, I would be careful. I would be intersted
in whatever you get back (I don't have bovik access).

Hi Mark,

I have no information about the agents you listed, however, I do have a
recommendation to make. When my wife and I moved here last August, we
were referred to Sandy Rutkowsky of Re/Max in Shadyside. We found her
to be friendly, knowledgable, and willing to go the extra mile.
(Literally. She drove us all over the place. And figuratively. She
did things to get us into the apartment we wanted that were above and
beyond the call of duty for a real estate agent. If you want details,
just ask.))

Hope this helps you. Good luck.

HI Mark,
I don't know how committed you are to those four agents, but I thought
I let you know that I am just buying a house, and I am VERY happy
with my agent Hope Feldman. She also sells homes (I am pretty sure
you can negotiate a 6% fee with her). Her phone number is 574-1443.

Also, Jon Cagan from Mechanical engineering just sold his house
successfully and recommended me his agent: Tamar Rosenfeld, 661-8550.
He recommends her highly.

Cheers
Sebastian

Mark-
My wife and I were *very* pleased working with Tom Critchfield
from Prudential in Squill. We were buying, though, not selling. Our
experience is also limited to exactly one real estate transaction ever,
so we don't have anything to compare the experience against.

Hi Mark,

we just bought a house in Edgewood that was brokered by Loretta Zalencko
(spelling?) with Northwood Realty in Edgewood. She was very professional
and we decided that if we ever sell our house we would use her over the
buyer-broker that we used (Rich Ackerman of Prudential, Sq. Hill. He was
fine, but Loretta was sharper and more on top of things.
