Return-Path: Received: from nl.cs.cmu.edu by K.GP.CS.CMU.EDU id aa05066; 5 Feb 92 16:37:02 EST Date: 5 Feb 1992 16:35-EST From: Monica.Cellio@NL.CS.CMU.EDU Subject: mover DISrecommendation To: bovik@K.GP.CS.CMU.EDU Message-Id: <697325731/mjc@NL.CS.CMU.EDU> On Saturday I had MovExpress transport many of my earthly possessions from Squirrel Hill to Swissvale. I know that some people here have gotten good service from them, but the service I got was so bad (and their followup so shoddy) that I expect to be suing them in small claims court soon. Anyone who wants the gory details is welcome to contact me. The summary follows. They were scheduled to show up first thing in the morning on Saturday. Despite the fact that I was assured this wouldn't be a problem (and I explained to them that the afternoon slot would represent a serious inconvenience to me), they did not show up until 4pm. I called their office a number of times over the course of the day and was, among things, promised compensation in the form of extra workers and reduced rates. I got little of this (some reduction, but not what I was promised, and no extra people), but they got my money. (I don't know whether they're liars or merely incompetent; that's not my problem to resolve.) These promises came from their head person. In addition, the movers damaged some of my property (minor stuff, but annoying) and wasted 20 minutes (= $20) because they "knew where they were going" and ignored my directions. (They then got lost.) They were also moving very slowly because this was their *third* move of the day; this was not the crew that was originally scheduled for my move. (It only got done as fast as it did because I hired a friend to help. He easily did as much as the three movers put together.) I have called several times a day since the weekend, leaving messages with both humans and their machine, but have never had a call returned. I have mentioned in these messages (which have always been courteous) that (1) I am considering a suit if this can't be resolved and (2) I can spread a disrecommendation pretty far. They don't seem to care. So here's part 2 of my follow-through. So, has anyone been through the small claims process here? Which courthouse do I go to for paperwork? Monica
