Harry,

I recently posted a query to general about wrought iron gates.
I thought you might be interested in the responses (appended at
the end) and my experiences. This was my post:

We'd like to get a gate made for our front porch (non-standard size,
like everything else in an old house...). The rest of the railing
is iron, so I'd much prefer iron to wood. Does anyone have any
(dis-)recommendations for places/people that do this? In particular,
we've talked to Modern Metals and Bethlehem Wire & Fence Co.

We ended up going with Modern Metals (765-1225). They gave us a
fairly low quote and had really quick turnaround time (they
installed it today -- two weeks after they came out to measure,
and one week after we got around to ordering it). The gate looks
very nice -- solid posts, not hollow; nice welding, and they did
a good job installing it.

Here are the responses I got to my post. My husband had already
gotten a lot of quotes before I got around to posting, so we never
followed up on either of these.

Triangle Welding in the Strip District does this: 261-6679

I've not bought anything from them, but I stopped by once and their
worked looked really nice. (Their welds looked nice that is.) I was
interested in taking a welding course and these folks were of great help
in pointing me in the right direction.

I'm not sure he is still in the business, but Sal DiSimone, residence on
Emerson Street in Shadyside, Did excellent work and is a very solid
honest person.
