I posted a message on general asking for people's reactions to Sun
Appliances, these are the responces I got:

Also check a price from Dormont Appliance. When we were looking many
people told us that was the only place to go.

Well, I bought a Zenith TV there, and I haven't had any problems.

I've always felt a nauseating feeeling after dealing with appliance
store sales people. I can't particularly reccommend sun over them in
that regard, though they don't seem so bad. Salesmen are a lower life
form...

Subject: Sun App.

I lived in Col. OH (where Sun comes from). Have used them for many years
(even drove from PGH to Col. to get a microwave once because I could not
find what I wanted here at that time). I have been happy with them. Never
had any problems, selection is good and prices are very good. I have bought
things from the Sun in Cranberry also. I have been happy enough with them
that I would be willing to pay a little more for products from them just
because I know that they will have what I want, with little pressure, and
without leaving me with that vague feeling of being ripped off that most
of those places leave me with. I have never needed to pay more for these
features because they are also cheaper.

There was an appliance store chain a year or two ago that closed down for
a period of time and customers who had *paid* for appliances but had
not had them delivered were left in the lurch. As it turned out I believe that
everyone got what they paid for. Whether or not the chain reopened
I do not recall. Neither do I recall the name of the chain. It might
have been Sun. COD may be your best bet in any case.

I've dealt with Sun on several purchases. They are very low pressure
on the sales tactics and their prices do seem to be very competitive
with the Appliance Store and others. They will try to sell you an
extended warranty. But if you say "no" they will shut up about that
pretty quick. Their service organization is responsive. They came
right out when we had a problem with a Tappan range we purchased from
them. I'm pretty positive about my dealings with Sun.

Jenny,

I haven't heard anything bad about Sun, but if you would rather buy at
the appliance store or Silo, I am pretty sure that they will all match
(or beat) any advertised price. They generally extend this to any
verifiable price (quote written by salesman, quote they get over the
phone, etc.)

I recently bought a boom box at Sun, 'cause I it was too much of a
hassle to deal with (and I didn't see any obvious advantages of one of
them over the other.)

Sun Appliances have problems unless tbey are SparcStations. Beware
anyone selling you a Sun/2. Not only are they obsolete, but the chopper
blade attachment has been known to cause serious accidents because the
older machines didn't have as good a protection scheme. I like Sun's
VCR (Virtual Card Reader) attachment. If you're seriously into VCRs
this is a good deal.

What...oh THAT Sun. Sorry.
