Bob,
I was looking for a mattress in September, and found out some
interesting things. First, a very good heuristic for judging mattress
quality is how long the warrantee lasts. A standard Sealy Posturepedic
has a 15 year warrantee -- I think other good brands are similar. It
turns out that downtown department stores get specially-made brand
name mattresses that are inferior to the standard ones, in order to
have really impressive-looking sale prices. These come with a 1-year
warrantee.

In response to your specific request, I don't know anything about
Englander mattresses. I finally bought the one I have now from a place
called "American Buyer's Guild" that I found in the yellow pages. The
price was about 2/3 of the lowest discount price I heard from anyplace
else, and less than 1/2 of the list price. They were very nice, and
delivered it to my third-floor apartment the next day. You might call
them if there turns out to be something wrong with the one you are looking
at.
