I have mixed review of Jon McElravy who I have used for a number
of projects.  Jon is a very capable person and is very reasonable.
In fact in many cases his bids came in about half of what others
bid.  His work is up to snuff but I have two problems with him:

1. He is not terribly regular about showing up to do the work.
We had him work on a fairly large project and he seemed to show
up rather erratically.  

2. He does not clean up after himself.  In almost every case, I have
had to clean up after him. 

If you can deal with calling him on the phone and bugging him a little,
delays and cleaning up, Jon has to be one of the best bargains in town.
He done some major structural work for me-- installing a grade beam in
a basement, removing part of a load bearing wall, constructing cement
steps, putting in a buried drain, etc.  In some cases, he came in 
under budget.
