I had recently posted on the market bboard asking for advice on
moving van rentals. Here are the responses I got.

I would reccomend that you NOT use Ryder. My wife and I moved
last month and we rented a Ryder van at Hess's Exon. I put down
$150 several weeks in advance to reserve a van big enough to move
a two bedroom apartment. When I went to pick up the van on the day
of the move they said that they didn't have a van that size
available and that I would have to settle for a smaller one.
The bottom line is that it took two trips instead of one. Also
it about an hour just to pickup the van. You may have better
luck with them than we did. BEWARE and have a safe move.

We got a 15' truck from Rent-A-Wreck (1200 West Liberty, just after the
Liberty Tunnels) for only $20.  It was only supposed to be for 5 hours
but the owner let us use the truck from 4 pm until 9 am the next
morning.  Other companies will charge you $40 to $60 for such a truck...

We recently rented a small trailer to move some items to Pittsburgh.  At
the time, we checked several rental places (Budget, Hertz, etc.) as well
as a couple of moving companies.  They all told us that the only place to
rent any kind of trailer is from U-Haul.  If you want a truck, the other
places, especially Budget, are cheaper.

I have only had experience with renting trucks for local, one-day use. 
I have found that U-Haul's prices are almost as low as half of the
prices from other rental places (Budget, Jartran, Ryder, etc.)  I don't
know if these low rates apply across the board.
