It's not that his work is so bad, but he grossly misrepresented his estimate, and sent us a bill that was nearly twice his original price. We wanted two rooms painted (floor,ceiling & trim, no closets), one of which needed to have the wallpaper stripped. Paul Bauer's estimate: $80 per room painting $50 per room to strip wallpaper $ for paint & materials So I figured, OK that's probably about $250. We received a bill for $500!! When I asked Bauers to break it down he said that to paint each room was $130 ($80 is only for the finish coat! - another $50 for the primer), patching and plastering was $80 per room. I asked why patch & plaster wasn't in the original estimate, and he said, "Oh I thought you knew that was extra". Right. I'm still arguing with the guy about his bill, but if you want to save your time and money, DON'T hire this guy - he's a cheat and his work isn't worth the money he'll try to swindle out of you.
