Here are the responses I got when I asked for plasterer recommendations.

Try Ray Beech (in the Bovik files). A generalist, but he did a good
work hanging drywall off a ceiling in a bedroom and replastering parts
of my living room ceiling after major plumbing repairs. I've the
"swirl"-type plaster - that's not too complicated but above simple
straight walls.

We used Bailey Plastering (884-3131) to have some water damage repaired
(one small and one fairly large area). They also replaced a drop-tile
ceiling with a plaster one in one room. They matched our original plaster
work very nicely (it's a rough-looking finish).

I must admit that I know the family who owns the place through my horse
club, but we did price other plasterers. They did a nice job for a
reasonable price (were very good about protecting carpeting and
furniture, and cleaning up afterwards, also).

Hope this helps.

If you use Don Kraft, make sure he has professional drywallers or
plasterers do the job, not ex-steelworker painters.

I have used Dick George (884-6687) with a lot of stuff. Very good work.

Below are some replies that I received to a similar query a while ago.
Hope it helps.

We ended up hiring Lou Tierno, who did a competent job at a
reasonable price. He and his assisitant did a particularly good job
in places that required replacement of large areas of wall. Their
work was less good in places that required patching. I am willing to
believe that this outcome was unavoidable given the contraints that I
set ("patch it" rather than "replace it"; you should probably
consider this point if final appearance is important to you). I
would hire them again.

I can highly recommend Lou Tierno, who operates off Penn and N. Lang (in
the east end). Phone 242-0663. He is a general contractor who
specializes in plastering. He did a fantastic job plastering walls and
ceilings in our house at what I considered a bargain rate.

I am partially biased toward him, because his wife babysits for our
daughter. Still, he did an undisputably professional job for cheap.

We have had Bailey Plastering (in the south end of the city, but they'll go
anywhere) do some work for us, and they did a nice job. They replaced a drop
ceiling with a plaster one, and they did some water-damage repair for us
(and they did a good job matching our rough-look original plaster).

Their number is 884-3131. Hope this helps.

Our landlord has a handyman he swears by for plastering. It just so happens
that this guy will be doing some work in our house over the next few days.
Do you want me to see if he's open to taking on additional projects?

A guy named Jim Gorry patched a hole in our living room ceiling. He
did a good job. My only complaint is that he got mad when I didn't
answer the door (I was asleep and didn't hear the bell), and so he
left and wouldn't come back to do the final coat. I can't blame him,
but if you use him, I would insist that he call first before coming
(he came by several times without calling first, and naturally, I
wasn't home. I expect this contributed to his annoyance).

Another possibility: Hadad Services. They finished the job, very
nicely. I expect they're more expensive. I have both their numbers
at home - let me know if you need them.
