There's a plumber we've used only once (to check on our furnace draft)
but who we liked, and who our pediatrician swears by. It's Proudfoot
Plumbing, 461-2198. The business owner was there, and explained that
he likes to come along when there's a safety question.

We've always gotten good work and reasonable prices (including
installation of a gas line for a gas dryer) from Charlie Henderson,
421-2623.

You can get a bottle of gas leak detector at the Physics
Store. You can rent gas line pressure testers that put
pressure into gas lines and will let you see the bubbles. The
testers have gauges so you can cut off various parts of your
gas lines and see if the pressure drop stops. 1/2 inch
threaded gas pipe is 10 cents a foot, a few bucks each for
connectors and valves. Tape , sealing compound and pipe
wrenches are less than $80 dollars. Get BIG pipe wrenches, 12-
14" in for installation., 18" for removeal. Putting black pipe
together is easy enough but getting the old stuff off can be
a real bitch. If your going to do it yourself spend extra on
the tools to compensate for your inexperience. Mom spent $1500
for a plumber repipe a house. Plumbers know you are paniced so
they dont screw you, they fuck you up the ass till you bleed.

This is all probably illegal, even though Builders Sqaure will
sell you everythng you need and deliver it too. Now if you
wanted to by a gun or a car that would be legal. But plumbing
is far too dangerous to public saftey to let the average
person with a college degree tinker with. ;>)

I've been very happy with Sullivan Plumbing. They were recommended to
me by other CMU folks. Their number is 271-0900. Good luck! -m-

Some years ago, we had the same problem -- in January. So don't complain
too much. We used Horovitz, who is somewhat specialized in this kind of
work, and was much cheaper than others. Oswald Wyler

Anwar --

I can at least suggest a plumber to avoid:

G.A. Dice Plumbing (and Charles Geiselhart, in particular)

Let me know if you intend to inform Harry Bovik, and I'll forward the
entire, discouraging story.
