Harry,
pfe the messages that people were kind enough to send me concerning
my quest for the perfect (good&&cheap) guttering company.

The job was to install guttering around a large Sq. Hill porch plus
the house roof to ground downspouts that they connect to. A little
awkward to do because the house is on a slope and using ladders to
reach the roof is not easy. The materials are all AluminIum.

The firm that we used bid in the same price range as the others
we approached ($339, all within $300 - $400). They had the extra
	things we were looking for:

ability to handle spanish terracotta roof tiles
		   long-established
		   insurance
		   reputation

-- they were recommended to us by the house inspector.

The finished job is *very* neat. I waited till it had weathered
the first of the summer storms before sending this message to you.

I believe the company's name was "Ken Roofing". Abysmal work.
Their workers were stoned teen-agers. Avoid at all costs.

Two good roofers: Norb Haas (Bell industries) and Hausler. All reputable
roofers have roughly equivalent prices. --DL

William H. Gantner (note middle initial) are the best, and also one of
the most expensive. I have had superb work from them, and they know the
various kinds of archaic Pittsburgh roofing techniques that we all find
in our personal museums (i.e., houses) thoroughly.

I recommend Paul Hoolihan (731-2726), a personable fellow who does
good work and stands by it. Paul replaced my main roof and gutters
last year and I expect to deal with him again.
