Here are the results of my latest car insurance quote survey:
Dave Andersons survey (under different assumptions) follows.
I am 26, male, single, live by myself, drive 7K-8K miles a year, only
for pleasure never to work. I have never had an accident, nor moving
violations, current;y insure with Nationwide (M.Elko)
(The above is what I told the insurance when they asked.)
To get MINIMAL (liability only) coverage on an '83 Dodge Colt, 4Dr.
I got the following quotes (in order of least total $/year):

State Farm Grace Robinson 682-7383 wants 260.60$ a year, for 30K property
liab., 25K bodily injury per person, 50K bodily injury per
occurrance, 10K medical benefits, 5K income loss benefits,
	 25K/50K uninsured/underinsured motorist.

State Farm Craig Evans 422-1616 wants 292.80$ a year. Coverage differs
from Grace Robinson in 30K property, 50K bodily injury per
	 person, 100K b.i. per occurrance.
He also charges a one time 10$ service fee, when you first sign
	 this (cheap) policy with him.

Erie Jim Starrett ("being real honest with you") 371-7050 wants 294$ per year.
However he has filled his quota on auto insurance this month and
won't sign any more right now.

Nationwide Mike Elko 422-7155 wants 336.20$ (I had been insured with
them for the last year and a half). Coverage differs from
Grace Robinson in 50K property, 5K 'funeral benefits'.

Geico 800-368-2734 wants 413.60$ I got their number from an ACM flyer.

Colonial Penn 800-523-1919 wants 579.80$ (I called to get a free
flashlight for just for comparing them, it was an ad in the Pgh
Sunday Press). Their coverage was 25K property damage,
50K bodily injury per person/100K per accident, 15K/30K
	 uninsured/underinsured motorist, 1.5K 'funeral benefits',
10K medical benefits and 5K income loss benefits. They claimed
that some of those coverages could be lowered, however they
were not willing to quote the lower rates over the phone.

Spodek (521-8600) never called back (I called them twice!).

AAA (363-0200) wanted 420$.

Metropolitan (422-2330) doesn't underwrite car insurance anymore.

Dave Anderson also called agents. He wanted to insure a 85 Honda civic
station wagon, new. He is married, safe driver, doesn't drive more than
8K miles a year, never to work, is age 27. (dba@k)

Elko (see above) was 265$ for 6 months, minimal coverage but including
collision and comprehensive (100/250$ deductible). If you also
have your home owners insurance there, you can pay monthly.

Starrett was 454$ for 12 months, but he had filled his quota.

Grace Robinson was 295$ for 6 months.

Craig Evans was >500$ for 6 months.

Spodek was 295$ for 6 months.
