be difficult to find good/reliable care without waiting on the list for 4-6
months. These are day care *centers*.  A center is a facility where newborns
through toddlers through pre-schoolers are cared for.  There seems to be
more of a tendency toward caring for an infant in the home vs a center.
This is the general feeling that I get from talking with various directors
of both day care centers and day home arrangements.  

Following is a directory of some day care *centers* in the
Oakland/Sq.Hill/Shadyside Area.  If you are interested in getting referrals
to in-home caregivers for any particular area of the city, call the Child
Care Network (I don't have the number but there is a previous mail message
which explains its services).  Please note that this hotline cannot give
endorsements or personal recommendations.  They are there to give you the
complete picture and to basically act as a yellow pages for you.  The
difference is that they can recommend which centers are likely to be more
crowded than others and can give you access to the individuals who list with
them (you can't get that from the yellow pages).
