Any of the department stores, downtown or Monroeville: Kaufmann's, Gimbel's, Horne's. Hughes and Hatcher, downtown; they recently closed their Monroeville Mall branch. Brooks Brothers, downtown. It all depends on what you're looking for, and what you're looking to spend. All these stores are probably vaguely in the same league, though. From: Mark.Stehlik at CMU-CS-A Subject: 3pc suits Gimbel's usually has a good selection and has suits of reasonable quality. From: Marc.Donner@CMU-CS-VLSI Subject: Re: 3pc suit recommendations? I have found the prices at Brooks Brothers (downtown on Smithfield) to be the same as all of the major department stores. The advantage of Brooks Brothers is that the quality is quite a bit better and the service is excellent. From: Philip L. Lehman Subject: Suits It depends A LOT on your price range. While I haven't bought too many suits in Pittsburgh, my intuition suggests Kaufmann's downtown as a reasonably accessible middle-priced place to start. Horne's is similar. You can work from there. Sak's and Brooks Brothers are more expensive, Gimbel's probably slightly less. Places in various malls around the area are probably somewhat less than that. From: Richard.Korf@CMU-CS-CAD Subject: Suits I've found that good quality clothes are made for people who can afford them. Unfortunately, these people tend to have waist measurements that exceed both inseam and chest measures. A good solution for skinny guys like you and me is Brooks Brothers downtown, and especially their Brooksgate line which is cut slimmer than normal. Alas, the place is not cheap. A wool suit will cost a minimum of $200. From: Rick Gumpertz at CMU-CS-A Subject: Re: 3pc suit recommendations? I have had the best hit ratio at Reich Frank in Sq. Hill, just beyond Shady on Forbes. From: James R. Driscoll Subject: 3pc suit recommendations? I would recommend Brooks Brothers (Downtown across from Gimbels) over the department stores. They sell quality garments within a wide price range. Art Zysk is an exceptionally helpful salesman. From: M Satya at CMU-CS-A Subject: Re: 3pc suit recommendations? I just went through this a few days ago in order to outfit myself for my interviews. I was looking in particular for the trim-cut look, since the regular cuts are too broad around the midriff for me. For this set of suits, only two places seem to be worthwhile: Hugh's and Hatcher's and The Coach House. I went to H&H downtown and they had a good selection and good prices (35% off regular); apparently they will be going out of business in a few months, so now is a good time for bargains. However the salesmen are a varied lot; the guy who attended to me was quite helpful and polite; however, I have been there once before and had to deal with an obnoxious, snotty salesman that time. The tailor seems competent, but I can't say for sure since I haven't got back my altered suit. The Coach House has a store downtown --- avoid it; the salesmen are not helpful and try to pressurize you. The store in the Monroeville Mall was quite different though; the selection was smaller (particularly for my taste) but the salespeople were much more pleasant; the tailor there seemed to be a very knowledgeable person.
