Greenbergs Poultry in Squirrel Hill has great Kosher turkeys.  But you
don't have to be jewish to buy them, honest!  I think the store is
listed in the phone book, but it is possible it isn't under that name
(I forget why I think this.)  They are in the same block as Ratners.

I think that fresh, organically farmed (i.e. no growth hormones, etc.)
can be ordered from the East End Food Coop, 7516 Meade St., 242-3598.

the east end food coop has free-roaming, organically-fed, recently 
butchered turkeys each year.  they usually take orders somewhat in
advance (probably now is a good time).  however, i would ask that if
you could do something about the turkeys just elected, i would
appreciate it.

you tell them a couple of weeks in advance.

Go to the Farmer's Market behind Sears in East Liberty on Saturday morning.
The stall at the end of the building furthest from Sears sells poultry and
turkeys.  You can order a fresh turkey from them and pick it up on the day
before Thanksgiving.

We recently saw an add stating that McGinnis Sisters are now taking
orders and we'll probably deal with them this year.  Joan Maddamma
speaks highly of them for other food items.

    I've been buying poultry from Derda Bros.  They are located on the
North Side, at the end of the 16th St. Bridge, across from Heinz.
They have fresh chicken, duck, pheasant, quail, etc., and told me
they will have fresh turkey for the holidays.  They are a major
supplier to the cities restaurants and hotels, and I'm really pleased
with the quality of what they sell.  They have limited hours,
weekdays until 4:00, and Sat. till noon.
