I was looking for wedding cakes on behalf of Dec/5 for the Wedding TG. I
posted on cmu.cs.general and got a bunch of responses (included below). We
went with Karen Kahn and got good service, a reasonable deal (perhaps
because we mentioned Dennis and CMU), and I think the cake was quite good.

Robert,

I got my wedding cake at USAGourmet in the Strip. I'm not sure
of your price range, but our cake (Almond Pound Cake with Butter
Cream Frosting) was delicious.

we had a wonderful wedding cake from "paddy cake" bakery in
bloomfield. it was chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate creme and
a layer of rasberry (something ... jelly?). all within the requisite
white icing. it was yummy! the part that we were supposed to save
for our first anniversary never lasted the week ... so we had to buy
another one on our anniversary.

good luck,

Prantl's makes absolutely wonderful cakes with roast-almond frosting,
which some people use as wedding cakes. That's what I'd do if I were
you.

Try the fluted mushroom. They did our wedding cake and it was great.
They also cater to SEI and have done lunches in Wean so you should
be able to get a cake delivered.

A friend of mine caters such things. She used to be the pastry chef
at Le Pommier on the South Side and is now independent. I've
personally eaten two wedding cake made by her (one was mine, another
was made for a good friend of mine) and they were both wonderful. Her
name is Karen Kahn and her phone number is 371-6165. She may be too
busy to help you on the spur of the moment, but it's definitely worth
giving her a call.
