It seems there two basically easy Pittsburgh answers to the omnipresent
search for men's watches: Service Merchandise, and David Weiss. Directions
and comments on these places follow. The last included entry discusses some
more interesting places to search -- probably good if you are looking for
something more upscale.

I was looking at some watches this weekend at the Service Merchandiser
in the Waterworks mall. They carry mostly Casio and Armatron watches; I
didn't see any I liked personally, but there is a pretty good assortment
to look at. I think their prices are pretty good, too, but I'm not
positive, as I haven't done much comparison shopping.

To get to the Waterworks mall, take the Highland Park bridge across the
Allegheny. Take the first immediate exit after crossing the bridge (the
sign says "Aspinwall", I believe). Drive straight on the road for about
1 mile. The mall is on your right across from a huge water-treatment
plant on your left.

I think this depends heavily on what kind of watch you want. I recently
bought a Casio "telememo/schedule" style watch at David Weiss -- they
seem to have reasonably discounted prices on Casios, Armitrons and
Seikos (and maybe a couple of other brands). As a source of hi-tech
watches, I think they are ok; the store I went to (Parkway Center Mall)
had a reasonably wide selection. A store like Penney's will generally
have not as good prices on a wider selection of "nice/dressy" watches.

I think David Weis at Miracle Mile Shopping Center is a good place to
buy a low-priced or medium-priced watches for men and women. You can
choose from over 200 watches and the prices are reasonable.

I looked for one for my husband and finally bought a Mivado at Bailey
Banks and Biddle. Not the cheapest place, but a great watch! If you
want something like a Seiko knock off of a Cartier tank watch, go to
the places on Liberty downtown. I didn't find great selection overall
downtown.
