Return-Path: Received: from BACCHUS.NECTAR.CS.CMU.EDU by K.GP.CS.CMU.EDU id aa25666; 17 Oct 96 19:11:24 EDT To: bovik@cs.cmu.edu Subject: For your records Date: Thu, 17 Oct 96 19:10:45 EDT From: jrs+@bacchus.nectar.cs.cmu.edu Sender: jrs+@bacchus.nectar.cs.cmu.edu Below is a table of the number of recommendations and disrecommendations I received for various tailors; the messages themselves are appended. In the last column, I've included the number of recommendations that were given to Nina Zumel a year ago in response to a similar query (excepting those who also responded to mine). These responses may be found in Bovik's database. Thanks to everyone who replied! Jonathan Rec Disrec Old Rec H. Drucker (2025 Murray Ave., Squill) 2 1 5 Topline by Vincent (254 S. Highland, Shadyside) 2 Northumberland Cleaning (5876 Northumberland, Squill) 1.5 2 Rocky's Tailor Shop (5410 Center near Aiken, Shadyside) 1 Ianni's Tailoring & Cleaning (5835 Forward Ave., Squill) 1 1 Lord Duncan Cleaners (5850 Forward Ave., Squill) 1 ======= ======= From: Theona@SMAK.BOLTZ.CS.CMU.EDU I take all my things to an Italian guy named Vincent whose shop is called Topline Tuxedo. It's across the street from the Rite-Aid on Highland Avenue between Shadyside and East Liberty. If you're driving down Highland from Shadyside, it's right after Alder on the lefthand side. I'm very fussy about details and he's very good, though not cheap. Theona ======== From: zumel@GS141.SP.CS.CMU.EDU I used Drucker in Squirrel Hill (on Murray, near the Sunoco) to get a wool pea coat repaired. The coat was basically falling apart, but he did a great job fixing it. I got the recommendation from a post to cs.general last year, and I still have all the replies I recieved (which hopefully I forwarded to Bovik, but I don't remember), if you want to see them. Nina ======== From: Deborah Cherry I had my women's lined blazer brought in and the sleeves shortened a little on a short-sleeve blouse, and I was very happy with Topline in Shadyside/E. Liberty. Price was very good, he noticed a stain on it that I hadn't (new outfit), and it was ready when he said it would be. 254 Highland Ave. (about a block South of Penn Circle). 362-1960 Debbie Cherry ======== From: Goodenough@SEI.CMU.EDU My wife, who is very picky about tailoring, takes all her stuff to Rocky the tailor, who is on Centre Avenue in Shadyside, just a few stores toward Negley from South Aiken. Don't remember the exact address or name of the place. John ======== From: James Daniel Morrow I've had good luck with one on Northumberland east of Shady next to a police station. It is right next to (and related to) a cleaners. -- Dan ======== From: Kenneth E Mohnkern H Drucker is good. He's in Squirrel Hill, on Murray, just a little down the hill toward the Parkway. Almost across from Napoli's. ======= From: Robert Frederking Northumberland Cleaners has a tailor operation on the side. I haven't used their tailor, but they do an excellent job cleaning, so I would expect the tailoring is professional too. ======= From: Nirmal Keshava Just make sure you avoid Ianni's Tailor on Forward Ave. in Squirrel Hill. They are incompetent, but even worse they are the rudest people I've ever met in Pittsburgh. I was mistreated from the second I walked in, until I picked my garments. When I brought them back because the crease was done wrong, I got berated by one of the owners. These people are just plain morons. Nirmal ======== From: bam+@cs.cmu.edu We have been unhappy with both the tailor in the Lord Duncan cleaner on Forward, and with the guy Bovik recommends on Murray near Beacon. Please let me know if you get any other recommendations. Brad Myers =======
