Joe's Barber Shop
7105 Reynolds St.
Point Breeze (in Pittsburgh)
371-4711

He requires an appointment, but I've gotten same-day appointments. He's very
good and only $7.

Joe Fischer in Homewood does a very good job, and charges only $7.00.
He is located on Reynolds Street, between Lang Ave and Le Roi (just
east of Dallas Avenue). His number is 371-4711.

Last semester, I saw this post on Andrew. I did not try it out (I haven't
had a hair cut since last semester!), so I don't know about the guy's skill
or whether he is still doing it this semester. Thought you might be interested.

Subject: YOU NEED A CHEAP HAIRCUT?

I am good at it. (Hey, what more can you really say?)
I cut several (10-15) people's hair regularly, and have decided to try
to branch out to make a few bucks.
I ask only about $5.00 or so, give or take (depending on how outrageous
I have to go).
Clipping/shaping is my specialty, but I'm also great with scissors.
Reluctant to touch girl's hair, but if it's just something basic like
clipping the dead ends, no prob.

The best place I know of for haircuts is Harry's Barber Shop
at 2238 Murray Ave. in Squirrel, near Murray & Douglas St.
It's on the west side of Murray about 2/3 way down the hill
and has the familiar red-and-white striped pole on the front.
Haircuts are about $8, performed by an little old man who
cracks jokes about his wife in Yiddish.

I have been going to Mike Casasanta on South atwood St in oakland
since coming to Pittsburgh (about six 1/2 years now). My hair
cutting needs are extremely simple. Mike is pretty cheap. I have
paid between 7 and 10 dollars for all my haircuts. He is the only
one at the shop so you might have a little wait (no appointments)
around lunch time.

I have been quite satisfied with Enrico's on Meyran Ave. here
in Oakland. A simple men's cut (no shampoo) is $9.
It's run by a father and son - go for the young guy.
It's a ten minute walk from campus. Appointment necessary.

   Enrico's
119 Meyran Ave. (between Forbes and Fifth)
   (412) 682-3738 (ask for junior)

Cimini (sp?) Hair Design, on the west side of S. Craig St. advertises a
"student cut - $10". Now, I am no longer a student, but that is all they
have ever charged me (perhaps "student cut" means "nothing fancy", which
is just what you asked for (and all I prefer, myself)). I believe their
phone number is 621-HAIR, but walk-ins are welcome.

Hi,
I always used to go to Joe Belisario, the old Italian barber with a
shop on Atwood Street, across the street & a bit south from the
Babylon Restaurant. He charged around $10. There's another old Italian
barber on Atwood St., closer to Forbes, on the same side of the street
as the Babylon, right up near the Thrift Drug and Dave & Andy's Ice
Cream. I never tried this guy.

Last year (I get a cut around once a year :-) I tried and was very
happy with "Enrico" whose shop is across from the "Truly a Treat",
right around the corner from the now-defunct David Weis outlet, again
in Oakland. Enrico charged $10 I think.

Another time I tried a shop on S.Craig St., over top of the Macondo
store, where they had a student special for $10, and that was OK too.

There's a bunch of hair places in Squirrel Hill on Murray Ave. One of
them, down across the street from Rhoda's or so, called Shaheen's, has
a sign advertising a $10 special for men on Sunday only. I might try
them.

Good luck,
Chris Koenigsberg

USA Hair - on the East side of Murray Avenue, just South of Hobart
Street in Squirrel Hill - charges $9.00 for a haircut (shampoo included
free).

They appear to do a reasonable job - at least I've never been upset with
any of my haircuts there (of course, not knowing me, I doubt that means
much to you ;-).

I've been happy with Cost-Cutters ($7.95). There are several locations
in the Pittsburgh area; I think the closest is East Liberty Station
(the small mall containing Phar-mor on Penn Avenue near Shady).

Try Mariano's near the bottom of Murray, close to Forward.
I've been going to him for two years and I've always been
pretty happy. He charges $8.- for a man's haircut and does
the job well.
