the greatest discoverer the world has known since Leonardo da Vinci,
and yet one of the least recognized scientific discoverers in history.

Jeannette Wing, President's
Professor of Computer Science and CS Department Head, and Bruce
Maggs, Professor, Computer Science Department, and Electrical
and Computer Engineering Department, have been elected Members at
Large in the 2006
ACM General Elections.
Professor Daniel P. Siewiorek,
Director HCII, has been awarded SIGMOBILE's 2006 Outstanding
Achievement Award. The award ceremony and keynote seminar by Professor
Siewiorek will be at MobiSys
2006, Uppsala, Sweden.
Jonathan Aldrich,
Assistant Professor in ISRI, has received an NSF Career Award! Jonathan's
interests are in programming languages and analysis. His NSF Career
Award title is "Lightweight Modeling and Enforcement of Architectural
Behavior". Check out the list of SCS
NSF Career Award recipients.
Kanat Tangwongsan, is this year's winner of the Allen
Newell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. Kanat's
thesis title is "Active Data Structures and Applications to
Dynamic and Kinetic Algorithms" and his advisor is Professor
Guy Blelloch.
The 2006 SCS Alumni
Award for Undergraduate Excellence in Computer Science is awarded
to David I. Murray. David's thesis title:
"Adaptive LAN-to-Host Multicast: Optimizing End System Multicast
via LAN Multicast Integration ", and his advisor is professor
Hui Zhang.

2006 Inductees Into Robot Hall of Fame®
Five robots, ranging from an iconic female humanoid in a classic
silent film to a ubiquitous industrial robot that helped make electronics
inexpensive and commonplace, will be inducted into Carnegie Mellon's
