CMUniverse is a mentoring platform that professionally connects students and alumni. They also have a group focusing on Women in Tech. Alumni can provide advice on topics including job search and interview strategies, applying to grad school, choosing a major, and discussing challenges that students might face along the way. Students and alumni can learn more and register to participate on the CMUniverse website.

The STEM Coding Lab works with local community organizations to provide CS classes to the young people in our region living in underresourced and often distressed communities. The lab seeks volunteers to assist teachers in the classroom; to build lasting relationships with teachers, students and volunteers; to expand student interest in computer science; and to introduce students to the many careers in CS and STEM, helping them see themselves in the tech innovators driving the industry today. All volunteers, who work directly with children, will be required to obtain Act 34 – PA Criminal History Clearance, Act 151 – PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Criminal History Clearance. Interested volunteers can request more information.

The Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) at the National Security Agency (NSA) is hosting a 2022 summer internship focused on high-performance computing (HPC) for diverse undergraduates. The program will run from June 6 to Aug. 5 at LPS in Catonsville, Maryland, and includes housing and a weekly stipend. The program aims to give bright, driven undergraduate students majoring in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering and related fields experience working on technical problems in future computing that supports NSA mission needs. The internship is ideal for students graduating in spring 2023, but is open to all undergraduates who are US citizens. Application deadline is January 31, 2022. More details can be found on the LPS website.

We will resume our updates on January 7, 2022. We hope you have a restful semester break.
